Nagaland Power Minister plans to corporatise power sector
Kohima, Nov 10 : Nagaland Power Minister Doshehe Y Sema has said that the process to corporatise the power sector has begun.
Inaugurating the first ever Solar Space Heating System at the Civil Secretariat here yesterday Mr Doshehe stressed the need to corporatise the sector.
The step was necessitated as there were certain changes in the prevailing financial norms in availing loan for development and power generation, he said.
He also said natural sources like solar, water and wind for power generation were going waste and the government was thinking of tapping these.
The Solar Space Heating System at the Civil Secretariat was the beginning of the process, which was installed at a cost of Rs 59 lakh. It was gifted to the state by the Bureau of Energy EfficiencyDirector General Ajay Mathur.
The minister informed that the Department had already planned to increase power generation for the state and many projects were in the pipeline with this aim, including coal based powerplants. He also informed that there were problems like high content of sulphur in coal found in the state and its sparse availability.
