Aligarh Muslim University centre set to tap wind energy

The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) centre here is all set to harvest wind power. The centre, with the support of state government, will start a wind energy generation project.

Windmills would be set up on its 300-acre campus near Perinthalmanna soon. A turbine would be installed on the campus and more such turbines would be installed later after analyzing the wind strength.

The proposal to tap wind energy was submitted by the Chelamala Development Society, a local level organization, to power minister Aryadan Muhammed, one year ago.

When the minister visited the campus later, AMU authorities seconded the suggestion. Then, a group of scientists from the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) visited the campus and they asked the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET) to conduct a feasibility study.
