Power companies should stick to electricity tariff for UMPPs: Jyotiraditya Scindia

NEW DELHI: Amid some power producers seeking higher charges on account of rise in fuel prices, Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia today said electricity tariff for ultra mega power projects should be as decided through competitive bidding process.

“As far as coastal UMPPs are concerned, coastal or otherwise, according to their competitive base tariff process — the tariff they have bid — that is what it should remain as,” Scindia told reporters on the sidelines of FICCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) here.

The Minister was responding to a query regarding the sanctity of contracts in the context of some power companies seeking to increase tariffs from the level decided through competitive bidding process.
