‘Engineering course on renewable energy can boost awareness’
In the near future, you can choose an engineering course in renewable energy [at the undergraduate level in India], said C.R. Vijay Dev, General Manager, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd. (KREDL), saying that this could help in improving awareness about renewable energy.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the 5th EL Asia 2013 and the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) International Renewable Energy Show 2013, a three-day event showcasing the latest developments in the renewable energy sector, he suggested that energy conservation could be part of the school curriculum too.
Mr. Dev added that the cost of producing solar power is now almost on a par with conventional energy sources. “Four years ago, the price per unit was Rs. 20 and now, in the recent 70 MW tenders carried out by the KREDL, it has come down to Rs.7.94.”
