Power situation will improve by monsoon: AP CM

Power supply situation in the State will improve by monsoon, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today assured consumers.

Speaking at the Mahindra tractor unit inauguration, he said that the power situation was causing hardship to consumers.

Demand has shot up and the supply affected due to lack of fuel and low water level in reservoirs.

About 7000 MW capacity is lying idle. Consumers in the State faced huge power cuts. The industry is facing power holidays and are being forced to shut units.

The State is now forced to buy power at about Rs 12 a unit and supplying it free to the farm sector.

“We are spending about Rs 300 crore per month to buy additional power per month and will have to do so for two more months. This is in addition to Rs 5,500 crore subsidy to power sector,” he said.

The Chief Minister invited industries to set up their units in the State assuring them of improvement in power supply. About 21 proposals with total investment outlay of Rs 1,33,000 crore are at different stages of implementation.
