Solar power back-up for petrol bunks
Petrol stations in some rural areas have started getting solar power backup to provide customers their fill of fuel more efficiently, while overcoming power cuts.
In an interesting initiative, two petrol bunks of Indian Oil in Kodad, Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh has gone live with solar power backup.
In line to get it soon is another filling station in Shadnagar in Mahbubnagar district also in the State.
Su-Kam Power Systems Ltd is the solutions provider for both. It powers the petrol bunk with solar energy and caters to the complete power load of the same, says Ashish Sethi, General Manager – Solar Business, Su-Kam Power Systems Ltd.
At the Indian Oil petrol pump at Kuchipudi Village, Kodad has a 2 KW solar power backup plant installed.
There is a power cut of almost for eight hours. So the entire petrol bunk except a few lights during the night is functional on solar powered backup system.
