Monnet stopped from drawing power lines
The Orissa high court has directedMonnet Power Company Limited (MPCL) and Empower, Trancs Private limited, Bhubaneswar, a construction company, to stop drawing transmission power lines over Angul’sNishavillage following a petition from villagers. Company officials said they are yet to receive the court order passed on June 6.
MPCL is setting up a 1,050 MW power plant at Mali Brahmani and Nisha villages in Chhendipada block and plans to supply power to the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited(PGCIL) at Angul’s Phulapada. So it was installing transmission lines for it.
“The company is trying to draw transmission line over the village without consulting us. It would make the village very unsafe as there will always be a fear of mishap due to the high power transmission line passing over our head. Besides, we were yet to be completely rehabilitated by the company,” said president of Nisha village committee Biswanath Singh.
He said the company has already acquired 664 acres of land and notices were issued to acquire 281 acres of land under 6(1) of the Land Acquisition Act. “We have lost all our land except our houses. The company should acquire the entire village and properly compensate us. If the company goes ahead without fulfilling our demand we would oppose its work in the village,” said Singh.
