Gensets continue to ‘power’ Senate House Campus

Allahabad University’s inability to clear power dues worth over Rs 1 crore, ensured that for the third consecutive day on Saturday gensets continued to power the functioning of Senate House Campus. The power department had snapped the supply to the varsity over the dues.

The actual bill of AU’s four hostels — AN Jha, G N Jha, PCB and Diamond Jubilee (DJ)– stands at Rs 86 lakh. An additional amount of over Rs 14.8 lakh is being realised by varsity authorities against the surcharge over the payment of bill pending since 2008. The total pending dues on the four hostels is Rs 1.08 crore.

Following AU’s failure to clear the dues, the power department had snapped the power connection of the main Senate Hall campus on Thursday. As a result, all departments and administrative sections had to rely on generators for power backup.
