Power generation in Jurala hydel units hit by technical glitch
Short-circuit in the electrical system has impacted power generation in four units of Jurala hydel power project located in Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.
The Jurala project has six units of 39 MW each aggregating 234 MW. Of these, four units (166 MW) have been impacted.
G. Adiseshu, Director, Hydel Projects, AP Genco, told Business Line that two units have been functioning as usual but four units have been impacted due to burn out in the electrical system.
The incident occurred on Monday night when one of the units was being synchronised.
The exciter magnetic rotary equipment (a starting equipment) which converts the current was impacted due to reverse load from three other units. This resulted in high power flow impacting the electrical distribution system in the plant.
“The damage has been analysed and we expect to fix the problem as early as possible. The available spares will enable us to generate power from one of the four units within a couple of days. For the other three units, the necessary equipment would be procured from China, the supplier for the power plant,” he said.
“We are in the process of procuring the necessary equipment. We expect to fix the problem within 15 days and hope to get back all the units or power generation,” he added.
