Three villages see ‘light’ for the first time
NASHIK: Rajesh Mengal from a village situated at the foothills of Kulang gadh is getting out of an old habit. His village in the remote hilly area of Trimbakeshwar in Nashik got electricity supply for the first time since Independence last Thursday.
The streets of three in Kurungwadi Group Grampanchayat, about 36 km from Ghoti in Trimbakeshwar taluka, were lit up with regular power connections for the first time on January 29 this year. The change is still sinking into the everyday life of Kurungwadi, Gavade and Dhamadi villages located 42 km from taluka headquarter across the mountains.
The electricity supply is limited to lighting up the street lights in the villages, which were lit up through solar power till now. A backup battery charged through frequent trips to the city was the only source of power supply for the sole television set in the village and some mobile phones.
