Citizens gear up to oppose electricity tariff hike
MUMBAI: Citizens groups and politicians are gearing up to protest the proposed tariff hikes by Reliance Energy and MSEDCL at the public hearings, scheduled for Reliance tariff on March 16, MSEDCL on March 18 and Tata Power on March 20.
In its mid-term review petition, Reliance has proposed a 9-28% hike for residential consumers while Tata Power has suggested a 4-9% hike for those residing in the suburbs. MSEDCL has also proposed a significant increase in tariff for consumers across the state.
A source from the energy department said, “Anybody can come to the hearings and voice their grievances. In fact, there will be registrations at the venue and everyone will be allowed to speak before the state regulatory commission.” The grievances and suggestions will be noted, and the commission will seek a response from the power utility firm. It will then finalise tariff for the discoms. The new tariffs will come into effect next month.
