PCL bats for power projects trashed by UPERC

LUCKNOW: The UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has approached the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) asking it to reconsider its decision to scrap four power plants proposed under the memorandum of understanding route.

The regulator had, in November last year, trashed the projects — with a combined installed capacity of nearly 2,500 MW — for want of enough progress at the ground level.

The cancelled projects include the 250-MW Parekh Aluminex in Barabanki; 600-MW Creative Thermolite Power in Murka; 250-MW Unitech Machines in Auraiya, and 1,320-MW Torrent Power. The projects lack coal linkages and land for them has not been acquired as yet. The regulator had also rejected the draft supplementary power-purchase agreements (SPPAs) between the UP Power Corporation (UPPCL) and the four private developers.
