Rainfall creates dip in power demand

MADURAI: The state’s electricity demand has reduced by as much as 50 million units (MU), thanks to the widespread rainfall in many districts in the last few days.

The power demand, which was 263 MU a week ago, dropped to 241 MU after April 12. Same time last year, the demand was as much as 290 MU, a source in the electricity department said.

Rain in Madurai, Tuticorin, Dindigul, Theni, Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Trichy, Karur, Ariyalur and Thanjavur districts have helped reduce consumption, as people have decreased the use of appliances like air conditioners (ACs) and coolers.
