DERC tariff hearing in June

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission is set to hold the public hearing for tariff determination for financial year 2015-15 next month. There were speculations that the process could be delayed after the high court early this month asked the regulator to postpone the hearing over a case involving Central Information Commission. Later in the month, the court gave DERC the nod to continue with tariff fixation.

The delay in holding the public hearing is due to a CIC order saying DERC must disclose information related to tariff fixation in “simple language” before inviting the public’s views on the matter. The regulator went to high court seeking a stay on the CIC order arguing that CIC has no powers to issue such orders as it can impact the functioning of another statutory body.
