BERC moots online applications

Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) is likely to stipulate soon that applications for high-tension (HT) power connections be made online only to bring transparency in the system and to monitor the disposal of such applications.

To introduce online applications, certain amendments will have to be made to the Bihar Electricity Supply (BES) Code, 2007. Certain clauses of the code need to be amended, BERC observed at a meeting recently. The BERC felt this proposal should be taken into consideration in the light of BERC (Standard of Performance of Distribution Licensee), Regulations 2006. The number of applications for HT connections is limited and can be monitored easily, the commission felt.

However, the commission said pending changes in the BES Code, online facility for applying for HT connections should not be made mandatory. This will enable applicants for HT connections to apply as per the existing provisions.
