Focus on hydel power for steady supply
GUWAHATI: The parliamentary standing committee (PSC) on energy has stressed on hydro-power generation to facilitate uninterrupted power supply in the northeast.
The PSC on energy, headed by MP Jagdambika Pal, held a review meeting with representatives from the Union ministry of power, North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited, officials from the state power department and representatives of the public sector here on Monday.
The meeting also discussed various plans on increasing power generation in the region. Officials said emphasis had been laid on tapping the region’s hydro-power potentiality to cater to the region’s needs.
Joint secretary of ministry of power A K Verma, Assam commissioner and power secretary HK Sarmah, chairman and managing director of NEEPCO PC Pankaj and managing director of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited RL Barua attended the meet.
