Delhi may be spared tariff hike
NEW DELHI: There’s good news on the power front as Delhiites may see a minimal or no hike in the tariff this year. Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (DERC) preliminary assessment of the claims made by the power discoms for financial year 2014-15 suggests that against their demand for up to a 20% hike, not more than 2-3% is actually required to adjust the revenue gap. Sources said that even this may be brought down to zero because the commission may impose certain penalties on the discoms that will be adjusted against even the minimal revenue gaps.
To invite feedback and responses of stakeholders – RWAs and the public – the regulator watchdog will be holding a public hearing for tariff in the first week of August. The hearing for BYPL, BRPL, Tata Power Delhi and North Delhi Municipal Corporation will be held on August 4 and for Delhi Transco and gencos IPGCL and PPCL on August 5, the commission announced on Wednesday.
