Now, KYC is mandatory for energy consumers
Patna: The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) has given its nod to a proposal to make ‘know your customer’ (KYC) scheme mandatory for all energy consumers in the state. The consumers who submit the KYC form up to August 31 will get a rebate of Rs5.
The BERC in a recent order said consumers could submit their KYC form after August 31 also, but no rebate would be allowed. Both the distribution companies — North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) — will have to collect these details from the new applicants at the time of giving electricity connection.
The filled-up KYC form will have to be submitted along with a self-attested identity card and the latest electricity bill.
The move comes following reports that meter readers and bill distribution agencies face difficulties due to non-availability of correct address and location of consumers.
Sources said the SBPDCL and NBPDCL would publish notice in daily newspapers, requesting consumers to submit their KYC forms. They will also display the notice at their local offices which is visited by consumers and upload the same to their website.
