Weather plays havoc on power supply in Lucknow
LUCKNOW: Trees uprooted during Saturday evening rains and broken branches played havoc with the city’s power supply which remained affected on Sunday too, spoiling weekly off of more than 5 lakh of population in various localities of the city including Hazratganj, Gomtinagar, Mahanagar, Indiranagar and Aliganj.
Uprooted trees and branches snapped power lines and damaged poles at several places, leading to long power cuts and erratic supply all day. Cable TV lines were also snapped at many places, leading to blackouts for hours.
Viraj Khand, Gomtinagar resident Mahesh Gupta said power cuts were not long but frequent, while Manoj Jaiswal, Riverview apartment, sector 4, Gomtinagar extension, said that in his area there was no electricity all night till Sunday morning. Similarly, many areas in Hazratganj, Mahanagar and Daliganj faced power cuts all night after an uprooted tree on the University road damaged cables and poles.
The 11Kv Telibagh feeder got disrupted after a tree fell on it. Restoration work was on till late evening. An overhead line near Balrampur hospital also snapped due to trees falling on it.
