Centre to subsidise UP’s solar energy schemes

In a major endorsement of UP government’s initiatives in the renewable energy sector, the ministry of new and renewable energy has committed to subsidising two schemes run by the state government — solar power packs distributed to residents of Lohia Grams and solar reverse osmosis systems — being installed in primary schools in UP.

The commitment, which came during the 8th Regional Interactive Meeting Between State Governments, Potential Investors, Project Developers and the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in Lucknow on Friday, also saw the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) promising UP to float the tender for 600 MW Solar Parks within a week. Four solar parks – joint venture between SECI and UP’s new and renewable energy development agency (NEDA) – are proposed in Kalpi, Allahabad, Mirzapur and Sonbhadra.
