Goa CM downplays hike in power tariff
PORVORIM: Trying to downplay criticism of the government over increase in power tariffs, chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar told the Goa Legislative Assembly on Friday that power tariff in Goa is the lowest in the country, in fact it is lower than tariff charged in power producing states.
Referring to the point raised by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo about non-fullfilment of an assurance reportedly given by the former CM Manohar Parrikar, Parsekar said that although he is not aware of the assurance, the government is a continuous process and if there is any such assurance it will be fulfilled.
Lobo had pointed out that assurance was given by the former chief minister that entities will not have to pay more infrastructure tax once the project is commissioned. The cost of laying pipelines as well as installing transformers for projects will be borne by the government and that a notification will be issued to this effect. But, no notification has been issued till date.
