Digitisation of electricity dept of Goa to begin in October
The digitalisation process of the state electricity department is expected to begin in the first week of October under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (RAPDRP) sponsored by the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
Speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’ electricity department PRO, executive engineer T A Varghese said, “A review meet was held on Wednesday and all the current works under the RAPDRP were discussed. The works are moving on as per schedule.”
Stating that the first phase of the project will be related to information technology (IT), Varghese said, “In the first phase of the project upgradation of the billing system and replacement of all the existing and procurement of new hardware in all the divisions, sub-divisions and substations will be taken up.”
Varghese further said that the order for the equipment has been placed and would be received by the first week of October.
“The state has been divided into four towns under the project, Panaji, Bardez, Mormugao and Margao. The pilot project had taken off in Panaji and digitalisation process is almost on the verge of completion with works in Ponda under the Panaji town are in progress,” he added.
The work order was issued to REC Power Distribution Company Limited (REC PDCL) in November 2014 and it was subsequently sub-contracted to Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) which is executing the project in Goa. Under the project, the central government has sanctioned Rs 110.74 crore of which Rs 31.46 crore has been disbursed.
“The second phase of the RAPDRP will consist of line development with underground cabling as the core component of the work. Initially, the work will be taken up only in cities. Panaji and Margao are already covered and work in Vasco is underway. Next Mapusa and Ponda will be taken up for underground cabling,” Varghese added.
