Madhya Pardesh: Rakesh Sahni’s appointment as NVDA chairman challenged
The Madhya Pradesh high court on Thursday served notices on the Union and state governments on a PIL challenging the appointment of retired IAS officer Rakesh Sahni as the chairman of the Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA).
Sahni was appointed the NVDA chairman in July 2015.
Former state chief secretary Sahni, a retired IAS officer of the 1972 batch, was the chairman of the state electricity board and was later appointed as the chairman of the MP Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPERC).
The PIL said that Sahni is not entitled to hold the post of chairman of NVDA as per provisions of section 89(5)(a) of Electricity Act.
“The provisions of section 89(5)(a) of Electricity Act say any member ceasing to hold office shall not accept any commercial employment for a period of two years from the date he ceases to hold such office,” the petitioner’s counsel Ajay Raizada told the court.
