Goa industry objects state govt move to hike power tariff

Industrialists in Goa said the state electricity department’s proposal to hike power tariff in the year 2016-17 would impact their business margins and make it difficult to operate industrial units.

Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) along with Goa state industries association, Confederation of Indian Industries, Goa, and travel and tourism association of Goa have also urged the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Goa to give the industry till November 30 to study the proposal and express their opinions.

According to  a media report, in a petition submitted to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday, the GCCI, Deputy Director RS Kamat said power is an important part of manufacturing costs and any large and unreasonable variations can spell doom for the industrial consumers.
