Kopili HEP clears another hurdle
The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) of the Union Ministry of Power has accorded concurrence to the detailed project report (DPR) of the 120-MW Lower Kopili Hydroelectric (HE) Project at an estimated cost of Rs 1,115.91 crore prepared by the Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGCL).
According to an APGCL press release here on Tuesday, the Lower Kopili HE Project is a downstream development of the existing Kopili HE Project. The project is planned to be developed as a storage one and it is located within the territories of both the Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts of the State.
It is planned to be run at full potential in monsoon season and to operate as a peaking station in the lean season. The project will have a 70.13 metre high gravity dam across the river Kopili at Longku.
It will have a water conductor system comprising an intake structure, head race tunnel, along with surge shaft, penstock and a surface powerhouse with installed capacity of 110-MW. For the project, an auxiliary powerhouse of an installed capacity of 10-MW has also been planned at the toe of the dam for utilising the mandatory release of ecological purpose, said the press release.
The APGCL initially submitted the DPR to the CEA in April 2010 and it was recast and re-submitted to the CEA in March, 2013.
