Oil marketing companies to appoint 10,000 cooking gas distributors in 2016
Oil marketing companies will start the process of appointing 10,000 cooking gas distributors in 2016, or 40% of the current base, with an aim to deepen the clean fuel coverage in the country, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said.

“2016 will be a year of LPG consumers,” Pradhan said, laying emphasis on the government’s commitment to take liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to more homes that still depend on hazardous firewood and coal for cooking.
Oil marketing companies have a network of about 16,900 distributors to supply LPG across the country to about 19 crore domestic consumers.
The companies need more distributors to reach new customers and serve existing customers better in a geographically diverse country where LPG consumption has risen by 7% this fiscal year.
The government is working on a new LPG distribution policy that would help plug the current loopholes, increase access and affordability, Pradhan said.
