CPM politburo member Prakash Karat urges people to oppose nuclear power plant
Visakhapatnam: CPM politburo member Prakash Karat on Saturday slammed the proposal of the centre and the state to set up a nuclear power plant at Kovvada and said any mishap could lead to a devastating impact on people from Srikakulam to Vizag.
Addressing people during his visit to Kovvada, Kotapalem and Srikakulam city on Saturday, Karat said even developed countries are not setting up nuclear power plants. He urged the people to oppose the nuclear power plant and said outdated technology was being dumped in India. In contrast, US, France and Germany are not allowing new plants to be set up in their countries, he added. The decision to set up a nuclear plant was taken during the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and should be scrapped immediately, Karat said.
