In a move to light up ancient protected monuments, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has geared up with an ambitious plan to install solar power panel system on rooftops of all the sites.
Sources in the Ministry of Culture confirmed the decision saying the initiative already received a go-ahead and the process of installing solar photovoltaic (SPV) systems on the premises of heritage sites and historical monuments will start very soon.
“All the rooftops of the ASI protected monuments will come under the purview of the initiative. We will cover the rooftops with solar power panels to light up the area at night. It will help save on the electricity bills significantly,” an official said.
He said the installation process will start from July-August this year only as the fund for the project has already been allocated by the Ministry of Culture.
