Wind power projects give profits a year before time
Wind power projects of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) set up in Saurashtra a few years ago, have started to give handsome returns to the local body. The first two plants of 3MW capacity set up with an investment of Rs 18.5 crore at Adodar in 2010 had a payback period of seven years. However, they have started to give returns at the end of six years itself. At present, SMC generates 17.7MW of wind power which it wants to scale up to 80MW by 2022.
SMC was the first municipal corporation in the country to set up a windmill for generating green energy in 2010. It started the endeavour under its energy efficiency cell with the aim to become self-sufficient and replace conventional energy sources in future.
