LED to replace traditional bulbs in Berhampur
Berhampur: The street lights in Silk City will be replaced by energy-efficient LED lights. Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) has signed a memorandum of understanding in Bhubaneswar on Saturday with the consortium of the three private companies to replace the existing sodium and tube lights with the LED lights.
Around 8,000 traditional tube and sodium lights will be replaced by the LED in Berhampur, said commissioner of the corporation Sukant Mishra. With the replacement of LED lights in the streets, the civic body would cut energy consumption by half.
The corporation is spending Rs 20 lakh towards the street light system every month, official sources said. The private companies are likely to conduct a survey to identify the streets before installing the LED lights, official sources added.
“We have already installed LED lights in two places – the railway overbridge from Kamapalli to Haladiapadara and Courtpeta to Gate Bazaar with installation of 115 such lights,” said Sukant Sabat, electrical engineer with the corporation. Another such project will be implemented from railway overbridge near Goplapur Chhak to Ambapur,” he said.
