India’s solar cell and PV module manufacturing capacity amounts to 1.5 GW and 5.6 GW respectively
According to new data published by India’s Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), installed domestic manufacturing capacity for solar cells and photovoltaic modules in October 2016 is 1,468 MW and 5,648 MW respectively.
Operational solar cell capacity reached 1,123.05 MW, and operational PV module capacity totals 4,307.55 MW.
As per the National Solar Mission targets, indigenous manufacturing capacity of 4–5 GW is to be achieved by the year 2020 in India.
According to MNRE figures, the largest indigenous solar cell producers are Jupiter Solar Pvt. Ltd. (280 MW), Indosolar Ltd. (250 MW), and Moser Baer Solar Limited (250 MW).
Waaree Energies Pvt. Ltd. and Vikram Solar Pvt. Ltd. are India’s largest PV module manufacturer (each 500 MW), followed by Tata Power Solar Systems Limited 300 MW.
