Power equipment companies slam move to allow Chinese firms to bid

KOLKATA: Domestic power equipment manufacturers have slammed the move to allow Chinese companies to bid for power transmission projects, arguing that it can lead to foreign control over a sector critical to the country’s growth.

The issue was raised soon after stateowned China Southern Power Grid  International teamed up with CLP India to build power transmission networks in India. “If transmission systems are owned and operated by foreign companies, national security and stability of the grid is an issue that needs to be critically evaluated,” said RV Shahi, a former secretary in the power ministry.
