Coal India to generate 1 GW clean energy this fiscal

Riding high on massive response from investors in green power projects, Union Power and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday said the government is confident that solar power generation capacity would reach 22 gigawatt (GW) in the current fiscal against the existing 12 GW in the country.

Renewable energy will get first priority in the future, but since such energy varies considerably depending on the intensity of solar radiation or the velocity of the wind blowing, thermal energy must be in a position to provide the backup needed, it added.
