PUNE: An excavator digging a road for drainage works damaged an underground 11KV electricity supply line, leaving the areas near Pune railway station, regional transport office and Sangamwadi without power for almost two hours — from 3.40pm to about 6 pm — on Friday.
A statement issued by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) stated that the Pune Municipal Corporation had employed an excavator to dig the road near the Naidu Hospital to repair a drainage pipeline. However, the distribution company was not given prior intimation about the digging.
The 11KV supply line was damaged during the digging process, resulting in power failure lasting for more than two hours. The supply was restored through an alternative arrangement only by 6 pm. The repair work is still on and is expected to get over late in the night, the MSEDCL said.
The distribution company has appealed to the civic body to inform the power utility about any road-digging work planned so that precautions can be taken to prevent any damage to the electricity infrastructure.
