Power production drops o 2,900MW in Raj on low coal supply

Power generation at four thermal power stations with a combined capacity of 4,940 MW in Rajasthan has dropped to 2,900 MW due to shortage of coal, a senior official of Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam said today.

Only 11 units out of 19 units are working at the four thermal power stations, which have reduced the power production to nearly 2,900 MW, the additional chief engineer of Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam, Kajod Lal Meena, told PTI.

“Coal supply has improved in last one week but stocks at power plants are not enough for running the full capacity,” the official said, adding that power production in the state is grim for last 12 days.

Nearly 16 rakes of coal are required daily for full run of the four thermal power plants at Suratgarh, Chhabra, Kalisindh and Kota. Only nine rakes were received on the first three days of October, the official said.
