7th phase trial at Kothagudem unit successful

The TS Transco successfully lit the boiler in the seventh phase of the 800MW Kothagudem thermal power station (KTPS). TS Transco and Genco chairman and managing director D. Prabhakar Rao formally lit the boiler and launched the trial power generation.

Mr Prabhakar Rao said the plant would be synchronised with the grid before March 31. The seventh phase would be the first power plant set up after the formation of Telangana state. Work was estimated to cost Rs5,700 crore and started on January 1, 2015. The Central Electricity Authority stipulated that the new power plants should be completed in 48 months. But KTPS was expected to achieve it much before.
