CG Wins Euro 24 Million Smart Meters Order From Spanish Utility Iberdrola

CG Wins Euro 24 Million Smart Meters Order From Spanish Utility Iberdrola

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

  • PRIME standard based smart grid deployment
  • Spanish utilities are expected to replace 100% of analogue meters by 2018
  • Reinforces CG’s market leadership in the supply of smart grid solutions

Avantha Group Company CG has won a Euro 24 million (approx INR 178 crore) contract to supply ZIV single and three phase smart meters to Spanish utility Iberdrola. This win reinforces CG’s undisputed leadership in the Iberian market and consolidates its position as a strategic partner for utilities in smart grid deployment. This order follows a significant order of Euro 17 Million from Gas Natural Fenosa (GNF) for the supply of PLC communicated smart meters, won recently.  ZIV’s single phase smart meter model is nowadays the reference smart meter in the PRIME PLC market segment, after the deployment of almost 4 million ZIV units worldwide.

CG in line with addressing the growing demand in the market has expanded its manufacturing plant in Zamudio, Spain, introducing new, automatic assembly lines that will be able to produce over 2 million smart meters annually. The company is ready to meet both international and national market demands where Spanish utilities are expected to replace 70% of analogue meters by 2016 and 100% by 2018 and is uniquely positioned to benefit from this regulation, by collaborating closely with the distribution utilities and assisting them in achieving the goal within the timeline.

IV smart meters have a proven track record of robust performance, backed by a string of strategic wins from some of the most relevant and innovative European Utilities such as GNF in Spain, EDP in Portugal and ERDF in France. CG offers ZIV meters, data concentrator units (DCU), distribution automation solutions (DAS) and Substation Automation Systems (SAS).

CG’s long standing relationship with Iberdrola goes back a long way in supporting their superior technology demand as a pioneer in smart grid deployment. Iberdrola has been a first mover in smart grid deployment from way back in 2011 with the first AMI pilot in Castellon, Spain, followed by the Bidelek project in Greater Bilbao in 2012, world’s first large scale smart grid deployment, for the benefit of nearly 500,000 inhabitants in Spain.

Commenting on this significant win, Avantha Group Company CG’s CEO and Managing Director Mr. Laurent Demortier said: “We thank Iberdrola for this important order which reinstates CG’s commitment in providing smart grid solutions to the European utilities to monitor and manage their networks. We remain focussed on supporting our customers to build a modern, efficient grid and improve their overall end-user experience by providing a full suite of smart grid products and services. As an agile company we are already working on new ZIV solutions beyond advanced metering infrastructure to ensure our technological edge”.

CG to Energise 35 Million Households in France

CG to Energise 35 Million Households in France

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

  • To maintain and repair on-load tap changers on 4,500 high power transformers
  • Maintain energy supply to 35 million households
  • Significant headway for CG into the French tap changer maintenance market

Avantha Group Company CG has bagged a 3-year contract from the French distribution network operator Électricité Réseau Distribution France (ERDF), which manages 95% of the electricity distribution network in France, to provide maintenance and repair services to 4,500 high power transformers. These transformers of ERDF, a subsidiary of EDF, are credited with supplying energy to 35 million households in France.

As part of this contract, CG will provide preventive and corrective maintenance of the ERDF on- load tap changers (OLTC) through speedy turnaround services. In larger power transformers, for proper voltage regulation, on-load tap changers are required. Tap changers continuously adjust the transformer load to the power demand and ensure uninterrupted and secure electric supply, making them a crucial piece of equipment. An OLTC allows changes in voltage ratio without de-energising the transformer.

CG is a pioneer in the design and development of on-load tap changers, positioning it as a strong service provider for OLTC.  CG’s proven expertise in this segment and technological advantage was a compelling proposition for ERDF. This contract follows the significant win of being chosen as one of the core manufacturers and suppliers of the first lot of three million Linky smart meters to ERDF as part of its grid modernisation initiative.

In fulfilling this new contract, CG will be supported by its dedicated service team of high-voltage specialists in Fécamp and Avignon (France) and Belgium, and its repair workshops in Avignon and Charleroi (Belgium). These personnel are part of the CG Service Division which caters to utilities, renewable players and industries throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa through a bouquet of solutions to maintain, repair and refurbish high-voltage installations.

Commenting on winning this important contract, Avantha Group Company CG’s CEO and Managing Director Laurent Demortier, said: “We thank the French utility for this opportunity to continue our association with them. This contract helps us to further strengthen our relationship with ERDF and our market presence in France. This engagement will be a valuable addition to the existing long-term agreement on repair and maintenance of high power transformers. With our technologically driven end-to-end solutions and services, we look forward to a continuously growing relationship with France in the future”.
